Pete Beveridge

Domestic Diversity, the first book by Lowell Pierson Beveridge, Jr., tells how, not too long after he was born in April 1930, his parents decided he would be called “Pete,” rather than “Junior.” (Tom was born eight years later — minus one day.)

In 2005 Diana decided to see if her former nephew, Jesse (adopted son of Pete and Tee Beveridge
), wanted to renew contact. Her Boolean search found him in just under 3 seconds and, half an hour later, they were chatting on the phone as though none of the ensuing three decades had elapsed. Over the subsequent decade they traded e-mail and cards with letters at Christmas time.

Jesse, his wife, Briana, and their two daughters, Rachael and Pierson, reside in Phoenix where he works as a software designer. Diana was saddened to learn that Tee had died in 1993.

Pete e-mailed Diana in 2010. The last time they actually saw each other or even spoke by phone was probably 1973-4 — some time before she and i first met.

In 2001 Pete remarried Caro Heller Please CLICK HERE to see the note sent to Pete B from Diana following the passing of his wife Caro.

In 2013, Pete asked Diana if she could help him edit The Colony, his most recent book, a biography of his grandfather. When he e-mailed her the 300+ page manuscript, she wrote back to say she thought it would take her 5-6 weeks to go through it with suggested revisions. She was astonished that the task was completed in just under one week.

Diana and Pete stayed in touch until her stroke in November of 2015.

A few hours after Diana died, Pete wrote:

I search my mind in vain for a name of the emotion I feel upon hearing of Diana’s death — neither sorrow nor joy, neither relief nor anger — just a calmness and serenity and gratitude that she was in my life. I have lost an ex-sister-in-law, one of my oldest friendships and the best editor I ever had.

Although Diana had wanted to see Pete again, neither felt up to traveling those last few years.

In late 2016 Pete met and began dating Dianne Mascarinas. They had much in common including similar experiences as parents and grandparents. He and Dianne were married on 31 March 2017 in NY City and now reside in Vancouver Washington as well as NY City depending on which has the more favorable weather at any given time.
